Bloomingdale’s – Aventura Mall – New Center Core Renovation

Echeverria Design group worked in collaboration with the Bloomingdale’s Design Team for the 1st floor center core renovation that included cosmetics, fragrances, sunglasses, women’s shoes and handbags. The design was inspired by the vibrant colors of South Beach with a touch of Art Deco. The design strategy was focusing on improving the customer’s shopping experience.

The 39,000 square foot project consisted of renovating the center core businesses for a Bloomingdale’s Department store. The departments included were Cosmetics/Fragrances, Fine/Fashion Jewelry, Handbags, Sunglasses and Women’s Shoes.

One of the primary goals of the design was to maximize sightlines from the mall entrance to the departments beyond Cosmetics/Fragrances that were previously blocked by full height wall elements. Design comprised of consistent sleek architectural elements to encompass the vendor spaces with the goal to lighten the space while creating an orderly vendor layout. Prioritizing the customer shopping experience in the design strategy was also of high importance. The design included a Fine Jewelry consultation area and open circulation around the caselinemaking it welcoming to customers. Women’s Shoes spaces incorporated various seating opportunities across the department. Furthermore, a centralized clearance room was created behind a stunning frosted glass wall with customer service desks in front for ease of shopping. The shoe perimeter fixturing was designed to create a refined aesthetic while being mindful of capacity.

Introducing bold new color palette and design elements inspired by South Beach and Art Deco Architecture in response to the local identity of South Florida, while staying true to Bloomingdale’s stores iconic style. Prominent introduction of a soft gold metal in the perimeter and loose fixtures all through brightened the spaces giving a sense of finesse. Accents of coral and blue shades were incorporated into fabrics and special materials for a vivid experience memorable to customers. Customized artwork inspired by the ocean complimented surrounding architecture. The design of the columns at the two main aisles of the store were influenced by art deco details resulting in a glamorous colonnade.  A new unique lit ceiling element above the main aisle of the store in Cosmetics/Fragrances was designed to drive customers down from the mall entrance towards the back of the store. Comprised of hundreds of individual hand-blown bohemian glass components hung from new ceiling drops to represent waves. The glass components are in the shades of amber, blue, crystal clear, and red accented bythe addition of new downlights.

Every detail was carefully thought out for this renovation while keeping the customer’s experience a top priority.
